SparkFun FTDI Basic Breakout – 5V

This is the newest revision of our FTDI Basic. We now use a SMD 6-pin header on the bottom, which makes it smaller and more compact. Functionality has remained the same.

This is a basic breakout board for the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC. The pinout of this board matches the FTDI cable to work with official Arduino and cloned 5V Arduino boards. It can also be used for general serial applications. The major difference with this board is that it brings out the DTR pin as opposed to the RTS pin of the FTDI cable. The DTR pin allows an Arduino target to auto-reset when a new Sketch is downloaded. This is a really nice feature to have and allows a sketch to be downloaded without having to hit the reset button. This board will auto reset any Arduino board that has the reset pin brought out to a 6-pin connector.

The pins labeled BLK and GRN correspond to the colored wires on the FTDI cable. The black wire on the FTDI cable is GND, green is CTS. Use these BLK and GRN pins to align the FTDI basic board with your Arduino target.

This board has TX and RX LEDs that make it a bit better to use over the FTDI cable. You can actually see serial traffic on the LEDs to verify if the board is working.

This board was designed to decrease the cost of Arduino development and increase ease of use (the auto-reset feature rocks!). Our Arduino Pro boards and LilyPads use this type of connector.

One of the nice features of this board is a jumper on the back of the board that allows the board to be configured to either 3.3V or 5V (both power output and IO level). This board ship default to 5V, but you can cut the default trace and add a solder jumper if you need to switch to 3.3V.

SPARKFUN FTDI BASIC BREAKOUT – 5V

Questa è l’ultima versione della FTDI di base di Sparkfun. Questa usa una SMD con 6 piedini e 6 pin sul lato posteriore, così è più piccola e più compatta. La funzionalità è rimasta la stessa.

Si tratta di una scheda breakout di base per la FTDI FT232RL USB a IC di serie.
La piedinatura di questa scheda corrisponde al cavo FTDI che lavora con l’Arduino ufficiale e le carte 5V Arduino clonate.
Può essere utilizzata anche per le applicazioni generali di serie. La principale differenza con questa scheda è che si mette in evidenza il pin DTR in contrasto con il pin RTS del cavo FTDI. Il pin DTR consente ad Arduino il reset automatico nel caso di un nuovo sketch scaricato. Questa caratteristica è interessate perché permette ad uno sketch di essere scaricato senza dovere prima premere il pulsante di reset. Questa scheda permetterà di resettare tutte le schede Arduino che hanno il pin di reset su un connettore à 6 pins.

I pins etichettati BLK e GRN corrispondono ai fili colorati sul cavo FTDI. Il filo nero sul cavo FTDI è GND, il verde è CTS. Utilizzate questi pins BLK e GRN per allineare la scheda FTDI di base con il vostro target di Arduino.

Questa scheda ha dei LED TX e RX che rendono più facile l’utilizzo del cavo FTDI. Si può effettivamente vedere il traffico di serie sui LED per verificare se la scheda sta lavorando.

Questa scheda è stata progettata per ridurre i costi di sviluppo di Arduino ed una maggiore facilità di utilizzo (grazie alla caratteristica dell’auto-reset). Le schede Arduino Pro ed i LilyPad Arduino usano questo tipo di connettore.

Una delle caratteristiche più interessanti di questa scheda è un ponticello sul retro della scheda che le permette di essere configurata con 3.3V o 5V (uscita dell’alimentazione e livello I/O). Questa impostazione predefinita è incorporata sulla scheda a 5V, ma è possibile tagliare la traccia prestabilita ed aggiungere un ponticello di saldatura se avete bisogno di passare a 3.3V.
